The Neepawa Banner

The Wednesday night game against the Portage Terriers was the first true test of the MJHL season for the Neepawa Natives. Unfortunately, the Natives were unable to escape the PCU Centre in Portage la Prairie with a passing grade, losing to the Terriers 5-1.

Natives Forward Drake Lindsay scored the first game of the game in the first period to give Neepawa the early lead. The Terriers however rallied last in the first to net a pair of goals to take the lead going into intermission.

Portage continued to keep the pressure on in the second period, outshooting the Natives 13-7. A lone short handed goal got past Alex Henry in the second, making the score 3-1 after forty minutes.

The Terriers kept the pressure on in the third, putting 19 more shots on goal and scoring a pair to make the final score 5-1.

Portage outshot Neepawa 48-20 and went 1 for 4 on the powerplay. The Native's woes on the power play continued as the team went 0 for 5 with the man advantage.

The top ranked Terriers are now 3-0-0 on the season, while the Natives fall to 2-1-0. The next game for Neepawa will be this weekend in the Pas against the OCN Blizzard.
