The Yellowhead Midget Chiefs first road trip of the regular season was a mixed bag of results, as the team went 1-1-1 during a three game in three night weekend. The club’s first two games were in Kenora, as the Chiefs challenged the Thistles on Friday, Oct. 14 and Saturday, Oct. 15. The first night was a successful one for Yellowhead, as they secured the 7-4 win. Ryan Heino of Minnedosa earned four points (two goals - two assists), while St. Lazare’s Eric Lemoine added four assists in the victory. Reese Jones picked up the win, stopping 24 of the 28 shots he faced.

The recent announcement by Hylife Foods of Neepawa and La Broquerie is slowly sinking in. $125 million is a lot of money. It’s even more money when one considers some of the previous figures tossed around over the years. Few really know, and I am not one of the few, what Hylife paid for the Springhill Farms hog plant. The figure of $69 million was touted as being what was invested in the plant to buy it and improve it. Could be. We do know that the waste water treatment plant, E3, cost about $20 million. We do know that Itochu of Japan paid about $60 million for a one third interest a few years back. But $125 million, that tops them all.

Construction is set to begin on a 130,000 square foot expansion to Neepawa’s HyLife Foods. Owned by La Broquerie-based HyLife, the upgrades to the pork processing plant are part of a $125 million company-wide investment plan announced last week.
The Neepawa plant expansion, which is expected to cost between $90 and $95 million, will focus on the cut floor, as well as packaging and shipping areas. They will also invest in new technologies and processes to improve productivity and yields, as well as increasing shelf life.
