Weed notes: Long weekend

Imagine a little more than a month ago with most people wishing we could have a “nice rain” to help everything keep growing. That certainly wasn’t the case, but it is a common thought now! In my travels I see pastures starting to brown off, especially in the sandier areas.

The last week of July and most of the first week of August we have been able to catch up on our roadside weed/brush program. Early mornings, after suppers and close to full days without wind have considerably helped us to cover a lot of ground.

This week, (Aug. 4-11) we had to shut down for the afternoon because of hotter temperatures — the solvents in the product we use will temporarily burn the grass as well, and we certainly do not want that to happen.

As far as the fall dandelion program starting in September, my list is already overflowing and  we cannot take anymore clients. I just hope we can do what we have in the past.

The long weekend of August we “babysat” our middle son’s boxer dog. She is certainly a lot more hyper than our older beagle! I will remember for many years to come, waking up early Sunday morning feeling like I was being watched. Opening one eye, I looked into the boxer’s face, which was only a half-inch away, and seeing my bleary eye she let out a big WOOF! But that wasn’t the bad part! The gallon of slobber that came with it full bore into my eyes made the “big impression.”
