About 85 people took to the streets of Neepawa on Sunday to be a part of the annual Terry Fox Run. Kelly Krzyzaniak, the local Run Coordinator said about $7600 was brought in from the day, which raises money for cancer research and celebrates the memory of Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope. Krzyzaniak noted that’s unofficially about $1500 more than was brought in 2013.

Krzyzaniak added that despite the weather being less than perfect, with cool and overcast conditions for most of the day, it didn’t seem to deter the spirit and enthusiasm of the participants.

“Everyone was feeling really, really good. We even had one lady come from the care home. The handi-van brought her in her wheel chair. She had her grandchildren with her and together, they went around the track quite a few times.” said Krzyzaniak. “Certainly the participation was higher this year and we had a lot of children out with their families, so that was really nice to see.”

Krzyzaniak said many returnees to the run also enjoyed looking back at previous runs through the many historic pictures that are shared at the starting point.

“We put up posters from the pictures that have been taken over the years and people spend a lot of time just looking at the pictures. They can usually find their children or themselves at different times in their lives and reminisce. It’s usually quite fun.”

This was the 34th year the run has occurred in communities around Canada and the world. To date, more than $650 million has been raised globally for cancer research in Fox's name.
