In spite of the Kinsmen project not receiving provincial funding to redevelop the former EVL site, the group is planning an alternative project for the site. Kinsmen Seniors Inc. president Grant Lukin says, “We are looking at a staged alternative for the site.”

In the meantime, a new housing option is on the horizon for Neepawa. Zen Developments (James Janzen and John Lavich) are launching a 24 suite proposal for the old Co-op store site on Mountain Avenue, in downtown Neepawa. John Lavich says, “It will be a 24 suite, 55plus project and will be attached to the old Co-op store.” The plan is to allow the new complex to have indoor access to Whitey’s Fitness Body Shop and any other businesses that currently exist or that may be developed at the site. At present, there is a restaurant and other businesses are in the works for the location.

Zen Developments is holding an open forum on Nov. 12 at the Co-op building (see the ad in this issue of the Neepawa Banner). The complex will feature street level indoor parking and  two bedroom suites that will be around 1,000 sq. ft.

Zen Developments has had considerable housing development success in Neepawa. Their first project was a 10 unit townhouse in Westcreek just north of the Country Meadows Personal Care Home. Their next project was a three phase set of townhouses on Commerce Street, west of the Yellowhead Centre. Two projects were 12 suite units and the third has nine units. They have all been rented or sold.
