On Sunday, March 13, Rivers United Church Sunday school held its Dollars for Missions dollar store sale. The children were very excited to offer a wide variety of goods including treats for dogs, cats and birds, as well as human treats such as coffee creamers, spices, dip mixes, bath salts and baking. More than 250 loonies were collected! The money will go towards projects for children in third world countries.
After shopping at Dollars for Missions, a large crowd stayed to enjoy and support the Outreach and Pastoral Care ommittee's green-themed Amnesty International fundraiser luncheon. The proceeds, in excess of $300, from donations for green soup, salads, desserts and beverages, will be forwarded to Amnesty International.
St. James’ Anglican Church will host our joint Maundy Thursday service on March 24 at 7:30 p.m. and we invite our Anglican friends to join us for the joint Good Friday service at Rivers United on March 25 at 10:30 a.m. Easter Sunday service will be held on March 27 at 11 a.m. and we would be delighted to have you celebrate with us!
To accommodate the Maundy Thursday service, choir practice is scheduled for Thursday, March 17 at 7 p.m. and after worship on March 20. On Palm Sunday (March 20) the choir will be singing the lively Holy Manna anthem by Joel Raney. We are looking forward to having Janice Brand (nee Hyndman, a former church attendee) sing with the choir March 20 and 27. On Easter Sunday she will provide the descant for Sound the Trumpet. Women of the choir and congregation are invited to come together for a women’s choir to be featured in April. On Mother’s Day, May 8, Stan and Sheila Runions will join the choir for There is Power in Jesus' Name, featuring a solo by Stan.
Donations of canned fruit, vegetables and meat, as well as peanut butter, are needed to restock the shelves of Riverdale Harvest. Donations can be left at Rivers United and they will be picked up and delivered to the new location of Riverdale Harvest (food bank) which is now at Zion Church.
