Church chatter - June 4, 2016

On May 7 a spring clean-up took place inside and outside Rivers United Church. As a gift from the Sunday school, all women of the congregation were presented with potted flowers on Mother's Day, May 8. The Christian Education Committee treated everyone to cookies after worship that day as well.

Based on the New Testament, Pentecost refers to descent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and followers of Jesus Christ. On May 15 the senior choir delighted the congregation with a lively spiritual in four part harmony, Spirit Come Down, composed by Mark Hayes. The choir is now on summer break with practices resuming in the fall. A string ensemble with Sharon Wolstenholme, Jo-Anne Davis and Catherine Davis, accompanied by Shirley Russell, joined us before and during worship on May 29.

The June board meeting has been moved up and will be held on Tuesday, June 7 at 7 p.m.

On June 12 the Sunday school will hold their wind-up followed by Sundae Sunday, an ice-cream event for everyone to enjoy! Also, Rivers United will be welcoming a new little one into our church family through the sacrament of holy baptism.

Remember to bring your favourite mug for the Women's Coffee, Conversation and Cookies scheduled for Tuesday June 21 at 2 p.m. in Friendship Hall. This is open to all women of the community and is a wonderful opportunity to meet new people, bring a friend, have some fun and is free of charge!

Vacation Bible camp plans are in the works and updates will available soon, but for now mark your calendar for the Aug. 22-26 event.
