Faithfully yours - Driving through a white-out

Like most kids growing up on a farm, I was driving farm equipment and our old grain truck (a 1947 Mercury 2-ton, maximum speed 30 mph) by the age of 12. So I have been driving for over 50 years; the last 20 of which have been on the highways and district roads in Manitoba.

Faithfully yours - Make everyday Valentine's Day

Store owners, florists and candy suppliers beware! Your stock is about to dwindle to nothing. St. Valentine’s Day is coming and from late afternoon Feb. 13 through noon Feb. 14, procrastinators from every corner of our community (mostly male) will be coming your way looking for cards, flowers and candy for those they love.

Faithfully yours - The great equalizer

Had they lived, they would be in their late 50s today. But they didn’t. Their lives were lost when a fire destroyed their home. Their funeral was the first of many I have conducted in the last 40 years. It is firmly etched in my memory because of the tragedy that took two precious lives.

The past 18 months have given me an opportunity I never thought I would have. I’ve been able to step away from active involvement in organized religion (the church) and take what I hope is an honest look at its strengths and weaknesses.

Observation - Jan. 27, 2017

The news releases on television were all geared to the newly elected president of the United States. There were many interviews and the pros and cons were discussed in great length. This person has now been inaugurated and will rule the United States for the next while.
