Deacon named MJHL player of the month

Mitch Deacon of the Swan Valley Stampeders has been named the Manitoba Junior Hockey League player of the month for September.

The 20-year-old forward from Port Moody, B.C., sits atop the MJHL scoring race with four goals and 15 points in six games for the Stampeders.

Meanwhile, Justin Baudry of the Steinbach Pistons was named the defenceman of the month. The second-year blueliner recorded six points in five games for the defending MJHL champions. 

The goaltender of the month award went to Nicholas Deery of the Pistons. The 19-year-old American goaltender from La Crosse, WI., was perfect with three wins and a goals against average of 1.67.

Former Neepawa Native Adam Iwan of the Virden Oil Capitals was a runner up for the award.

Lastly, Carter Johnson of the Stampeders was named top rookie. The 18-year-old forward from Gimli is off to a hot start with four goals and nine points in six games. He also leads the MJHL’s rookie scoring race.

Shawn Bowles, a former member of the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League's Yellowhead Chiefs, was named a runner up.
