Three western Manitoba hockey players have been named to the under-16 provincial squad that will compete at the Western Canada Challenge Cup in Calgary, which begins later this month.

Netminder Brett Evans of Grandview and forwards Tanner Kaspick and Ty Lewis of Brandon were named to the Manitoba team which will look to rebound from a poor performance at last year's Challenge Cup, which saw the team finish with an 0-4 record, placing in last place at the event.

All three players play in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. Evans currently plays for the Parkland Rangers, while Kaspick and Lewis are members of the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Meanwhile, goaltender Kristen Campbell of Brandon, blueliner Melissa Hunt of Hartney and forwards Lauryn Keen of Manitou, as well as Sheridan and Courtlyn Oswald of MacGregor made the under-18 female provincial team that will compete at the National Women's Under-18 Championship next month. Team Manitoba fell just short of a gold medal at last year's U-18 event.

The Western Canada Under-16 Challenge Cup will take place in Calgary, Oct. 31-Nov. 3. The National Women's U-18 Championships will also be held in Calgary and will begin Nov. 6 and will wrap up on Nov. 10.
