The NHL's Philadelphia Flyers announced a change to its coaching structure on Monday morning.
The Flyers fired head coach Peter Laviolette and assistant coach Kevin McCarthy, while fellow assistant Craig Berube was promoted and will now take over as the club's bench boss.
Ian Laperriere and Oak River product John Paddock were named as the club's assistant coaches. This will be Paddock's second go-around as assistant coach with the Flyers. He was an assistant late last season before moving back to a front office role in the offseason.
Paddock, who has been with the Flyers since 2008, has worn several hats within the organization, including the roles of assistant general manager and director of player personnel.
Prior to his time with the Flyers, Paddock spent time as the head coach of the Ottawa Senators and the Winnipeg Jets.
He was originally drafted by Washington in the third round (37th overall) of the 1974 NHL Entry Draft and appeared in 87 career NHL regular season games over the parts of five seasons with the Washington Capitals (1975-76), Flyers (1976-77, 1979-80 and 1982-83) and Quebec Nordiques (1980-81).
