Cassie Cooke and Sebastien Steigmeier were named the Brandon University Bobcats athletes of the month for October.

Cooke, a former all-Canadian came to BU in September and immediately made her impact felt, as she leads the 'Cats women's basketball team in most offensive categories and minutes played.

The third-year guard transferred to Brandon from Cape Breton University where in her one previous season she was one of the best players in the country, leading the nation in scoring. In her first games as a Bobcat, she picked up right where she left off, averaging 21.4 points per game in 10 pre-season contests.

In her first Canada West conference game this past Friday, the Westminster, Maryland product broke a team record with 34 points, the most by a Bobcat women's basketball athlete since the 'Cats joined the Canada West conference in 1999. She then followed it up with another 34 point performance Saturday.

Meanwhile, Steigmeier, a 6-foot-7 right side who joined the Bobcats men's volleyball team last season as a red-shirt, has clearly showed he was ready to play in the pre-season and first weekend of regular season competition. He helped the Bobcats to a 9-1 pre-season record, highlighted by a road weekend-series sweep over the Laval Rouge-et-Or, last year's national champions and the team that knocked them out of the national semi-final last season.

He then opened the regular season with a bang, recording double-doubles in both matches that gave the 'Cats home victories over the Regina Cougars.

However, it looks as though he won't be in the lineup for the Bobcats next game as he'll be out of the  lineup indefinitely, according to reports. Steigmeier suffered a sprained knee during practice in Edmonton last Friday and ended up sitting out the Bobcats games against the top-ranked Alberta Golden Bears last weekend.
