The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have fired head coach Tim Burke.
Wade Miller, who recently was named the Blue Bombers’ full-time chief executive officer and president, announced on Wednesday morning that Burke won’t be back in 2014 as the CFL club’s head coach.
“We thank Tim for his passion, hard work and professionalism throughout the past year and a half he has been in this role, and for his tireless efforts over the past three seasons with the Winnipeg Football Club,” said Miller in a release. “If an opportunity does arise for him to join our staff as a defensive coordinator, our organization would definitely be open to exploring this with Tim.”
“I’ve really enjoyed my time in Winnipeg and am grateful for the opportunity this franchise gave me," said Burke. "The fan support in this city and province is just really remarkable and it is one of the greatest things I can take away from this experience in Winnipeg."
Burke joined the Bombers as their defensive co-ordinator prior to the 2011 season and took over as interim head coach in August 2011 after Paul LaPolice was fired.
Burke was named Winnipeg’s full-time head coach last November.
Winnipeg missed the playoffs this season after posting a league-worst 3-15 record.
Winnipeg’s full-time general manager will decide on Burke’s successor.
Assistant general manager Kyle Walters has been handling the GM duties on an interim basis since Joe Mack was fired last August.
