One current member of the Brandon Wheat Kings has been named to Team Pacific and will participate in this year's World Under-17 Challenge Cup in December.

Braylon Shmyr, a 16-year-old rookie left-winger, was one of 22 players named to the team Thursday, in preparation for this year's event.

In nine games for the Wheat Kings this season, the 5-foot-8, 156 pound Calgary product has one goal and two points. In 10 career WHL games, Shmyr has two goals and three points.

A former first round bantam draft choice (12th overall) in 2012, Shmyr averaged more than a point per game with the Calgary AAA Midget Buffaloes in 2012-13. In 28 games he scored 29 points, including 12 goals.

The 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge brings together the top players in the world born 1997 or later and is made up of 10 teams; five from Canada - Quebec, Ontario, Pacific (Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories, Yukon), Atlantic (New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island) and West (Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nunavut) and five international teams.

The event is scheduled for Dec. 29, 2013 to Jan. 4, 2014 in Cape Breton, N.S.
