BU athletics to add cheerleading team

Brandon University athletics will soon be adding an official cheerleading team.

Led and organized by former dance and gymnastic competitors who currently attend BU, the cheer team will train under the BU athletics banner and eventually perform in front of the crowds at Bobcat home games.

"The goal is to help create an exciting atmosphere at Bobcat home games for both athletes and spectators," said BU athletic director Russ Paddock. "This will be a team in the true sense of the word. The athletes involved with this program will train and practice, and perform on game days just like any other current varsity team."

The program will be co-ed and perform at Bobcat home games beginning in early 2014.

An information and 'try-it' session is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 am in the mezzanine of the Brandon University Healthy Living Centre.

Practice times for the team will be Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am and Friday afternoon at 4:30 pm.
