Wheat Kings defeat Broncos

The Brandon Wheat Kings opened up their four-game Western Hockey League road trip Tuesday night with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Swift Current Broncos.

Peter Quenneville's goal in the shootout was the difference for the Wheat Kings, who ran their current winning streak to four games, improving their record to 13-11-0 overall, 

Rihards Bukarts and Tim McGauley scored goals for the Wheat Kings, who outshot Swift Current 49-27, including a 15-5 margin in a scoreless third period.

Rookie netminder Jordan Papirny was solid between the Brandon pipes, making 25 saves, stopping Colby Cave, Dillon Heatherington and Connor Sanvido in the shootout. The 17-year old Edmonton product has now played in eight straight games as veteran Curtis Honey remains out with an upper body injury.

The game featured newly acquired Ryan Pilon on the Wheat Kings blueline. Pilon was obtained from Lethbridge over the weekend in exchange for veterans Nick Walters and Taylor Cooper as well as prospect Tanner Browne. Brandon also picked up the playing rights to highly skilled Colt Conrad as part of the deal.
