The WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings announced on Wednesday that one 17-year old and two 15-year old prospects will be recalled next week in time for the club’s game against the visiting Regina Pats on Friday, Dec. 27.

Scheduled to join the club for practice on Boxing Day at Westman Place will be 15-year old forwards Nolan Patrick, Tanner Kaspick as well as 17-year old Duncan Campbell.

One of two prospects on the league leading AAA midget Wheat Kings, the 6-foot-3, 176 pound Campbell is currently leading the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League in scoring with 24 goals and 55 points. A second round selection (25th overall) in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft in Calgary, the 5-foot-11, 184 pound Kaspick is third in league scoring with 16 goals and 38 points.

Patrick meanwhile, a member of the Winnipeg Thrashers, is tied for sixth in midget league scoring with 14 goals and 31 points in 22 games. The 6-foot-2, 182 pound centre was Brandon’s first choice (fourth overall) in this year’s bantam draft, becoming the highest drafted Wheat King since Brandon opted for Darren Van Oene with the second overall selection in 1993.

Both Patrick and Kaspick were members of the bronze medal winning provincial team that participated in this year’s Western Canadian Under-16 Challenge Cup in Calgary. Patrick, Team Manitoba’s captain, led the tournament in scoring in early November with five goals and 12 points in four games.

The Wheat Kings will be without three regulars when regular season play resumes after the holidays. Right-winger Richard Nejezchleb is currently skating for his native Czech Republic in preparation for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden, while rookies Braylon Shmyr and Jesse Gabrielle have joined Team Pacific and Team Western respectively at the World Under-17 Challenge Cup in Cape Breton.

The World Junior Hockey Championship begins Boxing Day, while the World Under-17 Challenge Cup gets underway on Dec. 29.
