MJHL Season Rankings
1) Portage Terriers (2-0-0) (Last Week: 1) The Portage Terriers looked good on opening weekend in the MJHL. The RBC Cup host made a statement in Virden, taking out the Oil Capitals 9-0 and 4-1
2) Winnipeg Blues (2-0-0) (Last Week: 2) The Winnipeg Blues snagged four points off the Selkirk Steelers over the weekend. Winnipeg took the opening affair 5-2 on the road and then followed it up with a 6-1 triumph at home.
3) Dauphin Kings (2-0-0) (Last Week: 4) A strong start to the season for the Dauphin Kings with a come from behind overtime victory against Swan Valley on Friday and a shutout over Wayway on Saturday.
4) Neepawa Natives (2-0-0) (Last Week: 9) Great weekend for goaltender Alex Henry, the Neepawa Natives and their fans. Henry helped backstop the Natives to two big wins over his former team, the OCN Blizzard. Saturday’s tilt in Neepawa also had over 1,000 fans in attendance.
5) Steinbach Pistons (1-1-0) (Last Week: 5) A home and home against the Winkler Flyers went the way of the host clubs. Steinbach rebounded after an opening night loss, beating the Flyers 5-3 at home in front of 900+ fans.
6) Winkler Flyers (1-1-0) (Last Week: 6) Like the Pistons, Winkler’s rank remains unchanged after opening weekend in the MJHL. The Flyers grabbed their first two points of the season in a 4-2 triumph at home against Steinbach.
7) Swan Valley Stampeders (0-0-1) (Last Week: 8) It was a quiet opening weekend for the Stamps. Their one game had them slip 5-4 in overtime to the Kings in Dauphin.
8) Virden Oil Capitals (0-2-0) (Last Week: 3) Not the start the Virden Oil Capitals were looking for this past weekend. They were outscored 13-1 by the Portage Terriers in two games. However, although they lost 4-1 on Sunday, the game was much closer than it looks with the Terriers scoring two goals late in the third period.
9) Selkirk Steelers (0-2-0) (Last Week: 7) A disappointing start to the regular season for the Selkirk Steelers. Going back to the post season last year the Steelers have now dropped six of their last seven to the Winnipeg Blues, including two games this past weekend.
10) Waywayseecappo Wolverines (0-1-0) (Last Week: 10) – Like Swan Valley, it was a quiet weekend for Waywayseecappo. The team held their home opener on Saturday, but they were unable to score any goals in a 4-0 loss to the Dauphin Kings.
11) OCN Blizzard (0-2-0) (Last Week: 11) – OCN got bit by their former teammate and goalie Alex Henry on Friday and Saturday. Despite outshooting Neepawa 64-52 on the weekend, the Blizzard fell short in their first two games of the season.
