Rivers Curling Club was the place to be last weekend as 17 ladies’ rinks got into the spirit of entertainment with a theme of Under the Big Top. Curlers and circus performers from Rivers, Brandon, Oak River, Hamiota, Minnedosa, Sandy Lake, Souris, Marquette, Brookdale, Forrest and Douglas turned out in full costume for the Saturday evening performance. Each rink, dressed in theme, had a few minutes on the stage area to show their costumes and perform their act. After the ballots were cast and counted the Kendra Walker rink of Rivers with their Greatest Show on Earth act was deemed No. 1. A trained seal act, elephant duo and out-of-town clowns received the remaining prizes.

An amazing supper was created by Shelley Foster and her volunteer crew;  they have been turning out spectacular theme-based meals for this bonspiel for the past six years. Delicious and creative dishes! Alice Fast again worked her creative culinary genius on the dessert table. Raffle items and a few more games rounded out the evening.

Playoffs heated up Sunday afternoon with a couple of very close finals, one even going the extra end. In the Taylor Family A-event, Sandra Cowling of Hamiota defeated Becky Keeler of Brandon/Forrest. The Refern Farm Service B-event saw Kahli Wedderburn of Oak River/Rivers/Marquette defeat Donna Morken of Rivers. In the C-event it was Angie Whelpton’s Souris/Brandon rink edging out the Morghan Wark team of Minnedosa in an extra end. Such a lot of fun, and great curling too! Until next time, see you around the house.
