It was a pair of disappointing results for the Neepawa Tigers at the Zone Seven Soccer Championship on Thursday, Oct. 9. The boy’s team was defeated in the varsity semi-final by the MacGregor Mustangs 6-1, while the girl’s squad was downed in the varsity final by the Minnedosa Chancellors in a shootout 3-2.
Girl’s coach Kaiten Critchlow said it was a hard fought game that could have gone either way.
“I thought our team played a great game. They had a lot of chances but sometimes, things just don’t always go your way,” said Critchlow. “We gave ourselves a lot of chances to win and that’s all you can ask of them. Both teams are probably strong enough to be at the provincial championship. That’s the thing about a shootout; it can be a thing of luck sometimes. You never know what’s going to happen.”
Despite the defeat, the girls team still had an opportunity to advance to provincials. The team played the Morden Thunder in a wildcard game in MacGregor on Tuesday, Oct.14. The Thunder were able to beat NACI 2-1, bringing the Tigers season officially to an end.
