The Yellowhead Bowhunters Club showcased what it had to offer to some of the best marksmen from across the province. The group hosted the 3D Outdoor Classic on the outskirts of Neepawa on Sunday, July 10. A “3D” competition consists of life-sized animal targets placed in outdoor areas to simulate bow hunting.

The club’s terrain, just east of the community, was used to provide visual challenges and varying levels of difficulty for the shooters.

Yellowhead Bowhunters Club president Adam Lukin said about 75 shooters from across Manitoba competed in a wide array of skill categories. He noted that they are very pleased with just how well the day’s competition turned out.

“We had 75 competitors from across the province involved, which was great, considering this is the first competition of this size to occur in Neepawa in well over a decade. It wasn’t just local bowhunters either. Competitors from clubs all across the province were here,” said Lukin. “We had the chance to showcase the club and the nearly 88 acres of land that we have to use, as part of the competition. The area is well maintained, thanks to all of our club members, who volunteered their time, but [the 88 acres] still provided a suitable challenge for everyone. We’re pleased to have received as many compliments on the course and the competition.”

Neepawa mayor Adrian de Groot attended the event and learned some of the tricks of the trade from Yellowhead Club members. He said it was very nice to see the club generating this type of attention for themselves and the community in general.

“Today was just tremendous. It was wonderful to see so many people out here and involved in a sport like bowhunting. This is a beautiful area and perhaps a part of Neepawa that doesn’t get a lot of attention. Seeing how the Bowhunters Club has established itself in Neepawa and has so many people committed to its success, it’s important to give a shoutout to those people who are a part of maintaining these areas, because all of this is volunteer work which is excellent. It’s a real testament to our community,” noted de Groot.

The tournament results will appear in Friday, July 15 edition of the Neepawa Banner.
