On Jan. 27, the Neepawa Chamber of Commerce will be having their annual meeting. In addition to the business portion of the meeting, the evening will include entertainment and the presentation of awards.

“We are looking forward to welcoming those from the business community as we celebrate the past year and recognize those that have made contributions to the health and welfare of the business community as well as the community at large,” said Chamber president Sheri Grant.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Paralympian Colin Mathieson, a wheelchair racer.  In 1996, Mathieson won bronze with the Canadian Paralympic 4x400m men’s relay team and is being brought to the event through the RBC Olympians program. Given that the 2014 Winter Olympics will begin in February, the board noted that Mathieson’s presence is timely.

Local musicians will provide entertainment during cocktails and the meal.

This year will mark the start of new award system that will recognize businesses’ accomplishments in five-year increments. There will also be a presentation of business changes within Neepawa over the last year, as well as an update as to what the chamber has been up to.

This year will also mark the start of a 10-year program to recognize volunteers within the community. A new plaque is being prepared for the program. “We are excited about that going forward,” said Grant.

In addition to the entertainment, Grant said that there will be a brief AGM where a new board will be elected.  Grant said that they are expecting to have a full board of 15 members this year. “We see this as a significant accomplishment as new members bring new ideas as to how we can best serve our community,” she said.

The Neepawa Chamber of Commerce AGM will take place Jan. 27 at the Neepawa Legion. Cocktails will start at 6 p.m. while dinner, catered by the Legion Ladies, will begin at 7 p.m.
