The following is a complete look-back on what transpired in local sports over the weekend . . .
Natives fall to Stamps in OT; shut out by Blues, Oil Caps
The Neepawa Natives travelled to Winnipeg on Friday to take part in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's annual showcase weekend.
The junior 'A' club took on the Swan Valley Stampeders on Friday night and wound up losing a closely-contested contest 4-3 in overtime.
After a scoreless first period, Brayden MacDonald scored for Swan Valley before Henry Berger tied the game at the 5:30 mark for the Natives.
The Stampeders would then score two consecutive tallies from the sticks of Max Flanagan and Max Provencher before Robby Moar replied for Neepawa late in the second period.
The Natives would then tie the game at the 7:31 mark of the third on a goal from Riley Hillis. However, Neepawa couldn't complete the comeback attempt as Mitch Deacon netted the game winner in overtime for the Stampeders.
Nathan Armstrong made 22 saves to pick up the win between the pipes for the Stampeders, while Michael Gudmandson took the loss in net for Neepawa, stopping 27 of 31 shots.
On Saturday, the Natives played their last showcase game against the Winnipeg Blues and wound up getting shut out by a score of 5-0.
Warren Callis scored twice, while Jackson Keane, Taeron Lewis and Mack Heisinger also netted tallies for the Blues in the win.
Scott Parsons picked up the shutout win in net for Winnipeg, stopping all 25 shots directed his way, while rookie netminder Tyson Verhelst made 41 saves between the pipes for Neepawa.
The Natives closed out the weekend with a home game against the Virden Oil Capitals at the Yellowhead Centre.
Former Native Adam Iwan stymied Neepawa shooters all night long, making 32 saves as the Oil Capitals won by a score of 2-0.
Kurt Johnas and Jake Dudar scored for Virden, who improved to 5-2-0 on the season and currently sit in first place in the Sher-Wood Division, while Neepawa dropped to 1-5-2 on the year, securing only one point in the three games over the weekend.

Wheat Kings defeat Giants; lose to Rebels
The WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings went 1-1 over the weekend at Westman Communications Group Place, defeating the Vancouver Giants 4-3 on Friday night and following that up with a 4-2 loss to the Red Deer Rebels on Saturday.
Richard Nejezchleb and John Quenneville scored a pair of goals each for the Wheat Kings in the win against the Giants. The duo scored single tallies the night after in the loss to the Rebels.
The Wheat Kings now sit with a 4-3-0-0 record.
Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League: Chiefs lose to Thrashers, Wild
The Yellowhead Chiefs began their Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League regular season on Saturday.
The Chiefs held a 3-1 lead in the second period but wound up falling 4-3 to the Winnipeg Thrashers.
Morgan Geekie, Tanner Kyle and Jordan Robertson scored for Yellowhead in the loss.
On Sunday, the Chiefs wound up dropping a 7-1 decision to the Winnipeg Wild. Tyler Dereniwski scored the lone goal for Yellowhead.
In other league action, the Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Central Plains Capitals 10-1 on Friday and followed that up with a 6-3 win over the Southwest Cougars on Sunday.
Jets win season opener; lose to Ducks
The NHL's Winnipeg Jets won their home opener on Friday night, defeating the Los Angeles Kings 5-3. Devin Setoguchi scored twice, while Evander Kane had a goal and two assists.
On Sunday, the Jets hosted the Anaheim Ducks and wound up losing 3-2. It was former Jet Teemu Selanne's final game in Winnipeg in which he began his career in 1992.
Tigers pick up huge win; Vikings also successful
The Neepawa Tigers picked up a rather impressive victory late Friday afternoon in Rural Manitoba Football League action.
The Tigers offence racked up 487 yards and six touchdowns as Neepawa routed the Parkwest Outlaws 60-6.
Tigers running back Lynden Middleton had a big day on the ground, rushing the ball 14 times for 218 yards and three touchdowns, helping Neepawa improve to 3-2 on the year.
Tigers quarterback Brenden Cowan also ran the ball effectively with 10 carries for 141 yards and two touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the ball, Will Birnie had six tackles, one forced fumble, and a 19-yard touchdown interception return.
Layton Dixon also had four tackles and an interception, while Dylan Oshanyk had three tackles and a fumble recovery.
Meanwhile, the Brandon-based Vincent Massey Vikings defeated the Churchill Bulldogs 35-14 on Friday to earn their first ever win in the Winnipeg high School Football League's top division.
Barbs fall in final
The Brandon Barbarians lost 24-17 to the Winnipeg Wasps on Saturday in the Rugby Manitoba men's Division I final.
Kent Brown scored a pair of tries for the Barbs, who hosted the provincial final for the first time in the club's history.
Bombers deal Hall
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers dealt defensive lineman and CFL sack leader Alex Hall to the Saskatchewan Roughriders over the weekend.
The Roughriders also received a second round pick in the deal. The Bombers meanwhile, received non-import offensive lineman Patrick Neufeld and a 2015 fourth-round pick.
Hall has 15 sacks so far this season.
BU women's basketball team takes part in exhibition tourney
The Brandon University women's basketball team held their pre-season tip-off tournament at the Healthy Living Centre over the weekend.
The Lady 'Cats wound up finishing with a 2-1 record at the event, winning their last game, defeating the Red River College Rebels 68-41 on Sunday.
Cougars remain winless
The Assiniboine Community College Cougars soccer teams continue to struggle in their inaugural season.
Both the men's and women's teams lost to the Canadian Mennonite Blazers squads by 2-1 scores on Sunday.
The Cougars soccer teams remain winless on the season.
Manitoba teams successful at World Curling Tour event
Brandon's Scott Ramsay and his curling team defeated Tyler George 7-4 in the championship final of the World Curling Tour's St. Paul Cash 'Spiel in Minnesota over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Michelle Montford won the women's event, defeating St. Paul's Alexandra Carlson 7-4 in the final.
