The Neepawa Natives opened up a 2-0 lead on the road against Swan Valley, but wound up falling to the Stampeders by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday night.

Ryan McQueen and Steven Phillips opened the scoring for the Natives before Max Flanagan of the Stampeders would cut into the lead at the 18:17 mark of the first period.

The Stampeders would then score three consecutive tallies -- two of which came in the second with the third coming in the final 20 minutes -- off the sticks of Dylan Favell, Justin Valentino and Carter Johnson to give the Stamps a 4-2 advantage on the scoreboard.

Riley Hillis could get the Natives back to within one goal at the 8:17 mark of the third before Flanagan, who would be named the first star on the night, would score his second of the night for Swan Valley late in the contest to ice the game for the Stampeders.

Nathan Armstrong made 34 saves to pick up the win between the pipes for Swan Valley, while Davy Fisher took the loss in net for Neepawa, stopping 34 of 39 shots directed his way.

The Natives, who now sit with a 6-12-3 record, will host the Winkler Flyers on Friday night at the Yellowhead Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
