Verhelst picks up shutout as Natives defeat Wolverines

The Neepawa Natives defeated the Waywayseecappo Wolverines 2-0, snapping a 12-game losing streak on Wednesday night at the Yellowhead Centre.

Reigan Buchanan opened the scoring at the 9:07 mark of the first period for the Natives, who outshot the Wolverines 33-30 overall.

Drake Lindsay scored Neepawa's second goal of the game near the midway mark of the third period, while Tyson Verhelst picked up the shutout between the pipes for the Natives (11-35-5) , who now sit only three points back of Wayway for the fifth and final playoff spot in the Sher-Wood Division.

Mitch Wiebe took the loss in net for the Wolverines, who dropped to 14-32-2 on the season.

In other MJHL action on Wednesday night, it was the Dauphin Kings edging the OCN Blizzard 2-1.

Jared Morris and Tanner Lomsnes scored for the Kings (32-14-1), who are now six points up on the Virden Oil Capitals for first place in the Sher-Wood Division.
