Jaret Smith, a graduating player with the MJHL's Neepawa Natives, has committed to the Nipissing University Lakers hockey program next season.
The 20-year-old forward will join a Lakers team that plays in the Ontario University Athletics Conference in the CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport). Nipissing University is a public liberal arts faculty located in North Bay, Ont.
Smith, who hails from Fort McMurray Alta., was acquired last October from the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the SJHL, netting eight goals, 23 assists for 31 points in 44 regular season games with Neepawa.
"I would like to thank my coaches, teammates and everyone in the organization for helping me further my hockey and academic future," he said in a release. "I will always cherish my time in Neepawa and I'm very fortunate to have played for such a supportive organization. I wouldn't be here in this position without them and my parents."
The Lakers were 7-16-5 this season.
