Johnston recipient of Winnipeg Jets Alumni and Friends scholarship

Kendra Johnston of the Rivers/Elton Rage is this year's female recipient of the Winnipeg Jets Alumni and Friends scholarship.

The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to one male and female a year by the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association and is presented to those who show on-ice skills as well as leadership in their respective schools and community.

Johnston was a member of the Rage boys high school hockey team that went 8-9-1 during the regular season in the Westman High School Hockey League. Johnston and the Rage would later fall in the league's consolation semifinals.

Johnston, who also plays girls hockey, participates in volleyball, soccer, badminton and track and field.

Johnston volunteers at the elementary school breakfast club, coaches junior varsity soccer, as well as serving on the student council, grad committee and volunteering for the Grade 7 and 8 gym class.

Johnston also participates in fundraising events for student council, while maintaining an 86 per cent average.

Shawn Bellin of the Stonewall Rams hockey team was this year's male recipient of the award.
