Neepawa track and field standout Daniel Heschuk has committed to the University of Manitoba Bisons next season.

Heschuk joined the Tigers track team in Grade 9 and has continued to improve. He recently performed well at the 36th annual Manitoba Marathon in Winnipeg, finishing first overall in the half marathon in the male 15-19 age category with a time of 1:15:15.7.

He also recently took part in the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association provincial track and field championships earlier this month.

Heschuk excels in cross country running and late last year, he finished second and fifth overall respectively in the Zone 7 and Manitoba High School Athletics Association High School Cross-Country Championship; both of which are five kilometre events where he ended up finishing with personal best times (under 17 minutes). He also finished second overall at the Chris McCubbins Age Group Cross-Country Championship in Winnipeg.

Salmon joins Jamestown

Meanwhile, Neepawa's Wyatt Salmon has signed on with the University of Jamestown Jimmies track team. Jamestown is located in North Dakota.

Salmon was a member of the Neepawa varsity boys 4x100-metre relay team that ended up with a silver medal performance at the MHSAA high school track and field provincials earlier this month.

Salmon is a multi-sport athlete, helping the Neepawa Tigers win their third straight provincial AA hockey title in March.
