Considering how closely contested the last two games between the Neepawa Natives and the Steinbach Pistons were, it would be fair to expect their third matchup of the year would be a tightly waged battle for two points in the standings….

Wrong!

Neepawa was outshot 60-13 in the game, including an incredible 29-1 margin in the first period, as the Pistons cruised to a comfortable 5-0 victory, on Wednesday, Feb. 11, in Steinbach. In their previous matchups, the Pistons had defeated Neepawa 2-0 in the first game on Jan. 14 at the T.G. Smith Centre, while the Natives replied with a 3-2 shootout win on Jan. 28 at the Yellowhead Arena.

Hayden Goderis led the way with a goal and two assists. Tyler Garrioch, David Robertson, Cole Smith and Jonah Wasylak each added a single goal for Steinbach to seemingly close the door on Neepawa’s fading playoff hope.

Nick Deery earned the shoutout, his fifth of the season, by stopping just 13 shots, while Alex Henry made 55 saves in an amazing effort.

With just six games remaining in the regular season, Neepawa has a 13-39-2 record and 28 points. The team remains 10 points out of the final playoff spot. The next home game for Neepawa is Friday, Feb. 13 against the Dauphin Kings.
