A new partnership will provide Boxe Neepawa with a whole new level of credibility within the world of combat sports.

The club recently announced it has agreed to a new affiliation with the Roufusport Kickboxing Association (RKA).

RKA is run by Duke Roufus, a world renowned kickboxing and mixed martial arts (MMA) instructor who has trained well known MMA fighters such as former UFC Lightweight Champion Jens Pulver and The Ultimate Fighter season one competitor Stephan Bonnar.

In a press release, Roufus said that he is excited about the opportunity to bring the Roufusport method of martial arts to Boxe Neepawa.

“We’ve got an incredible program going at Roufusport and I can’t wait to start working with Derek Pearson. If you’re serious about martial arts, you owe it to yourself to stop in at Boxe Neepawa and see the program in action. Then you’ll understand why I feel it truly is the best available anywhere,” said Roufus.

Boxe Neepawa owner and operator Derek Pearson said that the club has begun implementing the RKA curriculum and belt level training system. He added that classes for both adults and kids have also been established.

“[Roufusport] is a program like no other. It’s a recognized fighting system that provides real guidance and mentorship to its member clubs. It mixes traditional muay thai with the dutch style system, which focuses on more striking as a means to set up the kicks,” said Pearson. “There are two sets of classes that we’ll be doing every week. Adult classes will be Monday and Wednesday, while the kids classes will go on Tuesday and Thursday.

Pearson also stressed that the boxing classes that are already well established within the club are still in place and that Roufusport is simply another training option.

“The boxing is focused a lot on physical fitness and enhanced cardio. Those classes have proved to be very popular. This other course is much more technical. There is a ranking system from levels 1 to 60 and the guidelines for testing are very disciplined. It’s another option that I think truly enhances what Boxe Neepawa is all about,” noted Pearson.
