New season set to begin in THHL

Another season is about to begin in the Tiger Hills Hockey League. For the 2015-2016 season, 13 teams will hit the ice, including the Minnedosa Bombers, who have jumped from the North Central Hockey League to Tiger Hills.

The Swan Lake Cougars meanwhile, had decided to take a one year hiatus.

League president Wayne Deschouwer said the THHL executive and the other member clubs are very pleased to have Minnedosa involved with the league this season.

“The Bombers have a great history. They’ve always been known for having a talented team and very enthusiastic fanbase,” said Deschouwer. “What’s going to be great about this year is that every team is very talented. The skill level of the players is fantastic and on any given night, any team could beat any other. The level of competition across the league just continues to improve.”

As for the Neepawa Farmers, they’re hoping to build upon last year’s solid 14-9-1 record. General manager Rodney White noted that the core of the 2014-2015 roster is returning, so they are feeling very confident of about their chances to win it all.

“We had about 27 skaters and three or four goalies come out to training camp. It was pretty much the same as last year. We did have a couple of new guys in there and a lot of veterans out. Overall, everyone is just really ready to get out there on the ice and compete,” noted White.

The Neepawa Farmers and Minnedosa Bombers will play a home and home exhibition series this weekend. The first game is Friday, Oct. 16 at the Yellowhead Centre. The following evening, the two teams will face off once again, this time in Minnedosa.

As for the regular season, Neepawa will start the year on the road in Hartney to face the Blues. The first home game for the Farmers will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 28 versus the Pilot Mound Pilots.
