The Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute (NACI) Tigers football team has advanced to the Murray Black Cup final, with a 40-19 victory over the East Park Warriors.

A massive offensive effort by the Tigers ensured the semi-final win, as Dylan Oshanyk went 6-for-16 for 242 passing yards and four touchdowns. Taine Middleton caught three passes in the game, but they were all touchdown receptions, for 32, 70 and 29 yards respectively. Jeremy Roe also came up with three catches for 112 yards, including a 68 yard touchdown pass.

The Neepawa ground game also got in on the fun, garnering 102 combined yards on 27 carries and a touchdown.

The Tigers’ strong offensive numbers were matched by a dominant effort from the team’s defensive line and secondary. The Tigers assembled a total of 42 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries. Dillan Neufeld led the way with 16 tackles and one sack.

The Neepawa Tigers will now host the Virden Golden Bears for the consolation championship. Virden was able to defeat Southwest in the other semi-final on Saturday 39-6. Details on the game time will be announced later this week. That information will appear in the Friday, Nov. 6 edition of the Neepawa Banner.

As for the Doug Steeves Cup, Dauphin will play Swan Valley this weekend for the Rural Manitoba Football League’s top prize. Swan Valley topped Parkwest 14-12, while Dauphin upended Moosomin 15-13.
