A team from the Neepawa Curling Club has earned a berth in the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
Team Ursel, which is made up of Terry Ursel, Gwen Wooley, Tracy Igonia, Wanda Rainka and coach John Csversko won the A-side final at the Westman Ladies Regionals, held in Neepawa Dec. 20-21.
The club sealed their spot at the provincials with a dominant 8-3 win over Cheryl Reed of the Brandon Curling Club.
Team Ursel made its way to the A-side final, after receiving a first round bye and then topping Katie Chappellaz from the Brandon Curling Club 9-2. Reed meanwhile, advanced to the final by defeating Deb Collyer of Killarney 10-6 and then outlasting Tina Kozak’s team from the Neepawa Curling Club, 8-6.
After losing the A-Side final, Reed’s team was able to bounce back from that disappointing result and secured the second invitation to the Scotties by emerging victorious in the B-side final. Reed defeated Team Chappellaz 9-1.
Congratulations to Team Ursel of Neepawa and Team Reed of Brandon on winning berths to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. That provincial event is scheduled for Jan. 20-24 in Beausejour at the Sun Gro Centre.
