It was a difficult week for the NACI Tigers hockey team, as they were bested in three separate games.
The first matchup featured Neepawa facing the Virden Golden Bears on Wednesday, Jan. 20. The Tigers put in a strong early effort but could not keep pace with Virden for the full 60 minutes, falling 7-3.
The first period was the best for the home side, as Neepawa scored a pair of goals and had a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Over the final 40 minutes however, the Bears would take over, earning three goals in the second and three more in the third. Neepawa replied with one goal in the middle period, but that was simply not enough to mount any type of comeback. Rhys Lewis, Tysne Stanski and Austin Whelpton were the goal scorers for the Tigers on the night.
On Friday, Jan. 22, NACI travelled to the Shamrock Centre to face the top team in the Westman High School Hockey League, the Killarney Raiders.
A quick start by the Raiders was simply too much for Neepawa to overcome, as the Tigers lost 9-3. Will Birnie, Ryan Kostenchuk and Will Rainka lit the lamp for NACI in the defeat.
The final weekend game for Neepawa was back in the friendly confines of the Yellowhead Centre on Sunday, Jan. 24, as they challenged the Deloraine Colts. Over 60 minutes, the Tigers were unable to get their offensive output going, scoring just a single goal, on the way to a 4-1 defeat. Brennan Wiebe was the lone scorer for NACI.
With these defeats, the Tigers have fallen to 2-13-0 on the Westman High School Hockey League regular season.
