Farmers fall to Killarney

A three goal effort by forward Isaac Friesen helped the Killarney Shamrocks cruise to a 6-2 victory over the Neepawa Farmers in Tiger Hills Hockey League action on Saturday, Jan. 30. 

The Shamrocks jumped out to a comfortable lead in the opening period by scoring four goals, including a pair from Friesen. 

In the second period, the Farmers answered back early with Lance Nugent securing his 16th goal of the season. Ian Kerkowich and Riley Kolesar garnered assists on the play. Killarney replied before the end of the period however, with a goal from Aubrey Chapman.

In the third period, Friesen secured his hat trick with just under three minutes remaining. That was his 46th point of the season. Neepawa scored a second goal with just seven seconds remaining in the game to make it a 6-2 final. Brian McCannell scored, while Nugent assisted on the marker.

With the win, the Killarney Shamrocks improved their record to 17-4-0 on the regular season. They are now seven points ahead of the second place Boissevain Border Kings. 

As for the Neepawa Farmers, they have fallen to 13-9-1 and remain in third place in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Eastern Division.
