After winning the Zone 7 berth in Gladstone on Feb. 12 and 13, Rivers Collegiate Institute men's curling team consisting of Justin Gerrard, Connor English, Beau Bridgeman, Brendan English and coach Clayton Robins, were slated to compete in the provincial high school curling championships. Provincials were held Feb. 25-27 in Gladstone and Plumas curling clubs.
After victories over Vincent Massey Collegiate of Winnipeg, Crocus Plains Secondary Regional High School of Brandon and Stonewall Collegiate, the boys advanced to the A-side final. They played Swan River in that final, but came up a little short — Swan River defeated them.
Both Swan River and our Rivers Collegiate teams dropped down to the B-side. Rivers defeated a very strong Kelvin High School (Winnipeg) to advance to the B-side final. In the final, Rivers once again met up with the Swan River team. The game was very close but after eight ends, Swan River defeated Rivers by a score of 4-2.
There were 16 men's and 16 women's teams in this event. The ice was in great condition and the Rivers team was supported by many local fans who drove to Plumas and Gladstone to cheer them on. Congratulations on your silver medal win!
