Local track athlete on two teams

Last summer, Morgan Ramsay placed very well at a provincial track meet at University of Manitoba and was selected to join Team Manitoba. It competes at one event, the Western Canadian Challenge, where Morgan’s relay team won silver and she placed in the top 10 in her two other events (100- and 200-metre sprints). This year, following the annual Age Class Championship track meet in June, she was once again selected for Team Manitoba. This weekend she is in Regina competing in the Western Canadian Challenge and like last year, is again in relay, 100 and 200 metres. 

Last week she trained at the Legion Athletic Camp (International Peace Gardens) in the advanced track regimen. Her skill was such that camp directors made her part of the Manitoba/Northwest Ontario Legion team, meaning she will travel to Sainte Therese, Que. Aug. 3-9 to compete at the Royal Canadian Legion youth championships. At this meet she will compete in 200 metres and as part of the relay team.

“I’ll likely know the relay teammates, but I’m not really sure. I think the girls who beat me at provincials last year and the year before that will be on the team, because they likely pick the best.”

As past reports have stated, Morgan trains with Bryce Koscielny and is a member of Prairie Storm Athletics Track and Field Club in Neepawa. She is in that town every Tuesday and Thursday for year-round training, as well as any extra conditioning that may come from school sports, AAA hockey and trips to Brandon to practice on the track in that city. When September rolls around, the 16-year-old will be a Grade 11 student at Rivers Collegiate. She is wished continued success at these competitions.
