Any long weekend is usually an active one for RCMP officers on traffic duty. For RCMP Traffic Services in the western part of the province, this past long weekend was no exception.

This resulted in a $927 fine. A total of five drivers were charged for travelling more than 30 kilometres per hour over the speed limit, including two that were charged for driving 150 kilometres per hour and fined $705 each.

That same night, RCMP officers with West District Traffic Services were able to apprehend a 22-year-old Rivers man after he attempted to evade police. He is being investigated for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a police officer and mischief, due to the damage his vehicle did to farmers’ fields in the area.

The evening of Aug. 30 was just as busy with a total of 27 charges laid which included one driver travelling at 150 kilometres per hour, one at 142 kilometres per hour and six more at more than 130 kilometres an hour. Westman RCMP also handed out one alcohol-related 24-hour roadside suspension.
