WCC gets ready for spring production

Neepawa is a very fortunate community—we have several recreational  organisations and a number of different culture and arts opportunities available for people of all ages. Several of these are hosted by the Viscount Cultural Council, including the Whitemud Comedy Company.

The Whitemud Comedy Company put on our first play in 1983. Initially it was a single project sponsored by the VCC, but in 1984 we consolidated as a separate group and have been doing regular productions in Neepawa ever since. In the early days there were two productions a year, fall and spring, and plays were performed in the old gymnasium of HMK school. Over the years, we’ve performed plays in other venues such as the Roxy Theatre, Yellowhead Centre and Viscount Cultural Centre, as well as performing in other locations across Manitoba at the ACT Theatre Festival.

The WCC introduced pantomime English pub nights and dinner theatre to the community, and performs primarily comedy plays, both classic and contemporary, from Canada, the US, the UK, France and elsewhere. We’ve also been involved in local film productions and put on an annual reading of “A Christmas Carol” each year during the holidays. The group is open to anyone over the age of 18 in Neepawa and the surrounding area, and offers a chance to see what it’s like to put on a theatre production. Whether you perform on stage, work behind the scenes with props or costumes, help design and put together sets, operate sound and lighting, or even do publicity, there is a role for everyone.

The WCC have enjoyed being a part of the community and look forward to another 30 years of entertaining  neighbours and friends!

Currently we are getting ready for our spring production, a dinner theatre planned for May, and we are looking for people who are interested in going on stage or working behind the scenes. Specific roles include parts for males or females between the ages of 18 and 35 as well as between the ages of 35 and 50, although you are welcome at any age! Whitemud is great for couples to be involved in an activity together and members come from all different professions and backgrounds. Absolutely no experience is necessary—everyone learns through doing!

For anyone who wants to take part, all you have to do is call Don at 476-2638 or Rrain at the VCC at 476-3232 to express your interest. We need to hear from people interested in being involved in the spring production by Saturday, Jan. 24, but you’re also welcome to get in touch any other time.

If you have ever been interested in being involved in such a group, now’s your chance!  Give us a call and let's have some fun.
