The second annual Pelican Lake Healthy Water and Fish Committee ice fishing derby was held on Saturday, March 7 in the northern basin of Pelican Lake in Ninette.

The derby was a great success with 379 adult anglers and 87 junior anglers coming out to fish. With reports of slow fishing over the last few months, we were happy to see during the four-hour derby that a total of 234 fish were measured; 69 walleye, 117 northern pike and 48 perch.  Among our winners were two from Forrest and one from Rivers.

Cole Lelond of Rivers had the second-longest northern pike (86 centimetres) in the junior category; Emilyea Zamonsky of Forrest had the sixth-longest junior pike (63.5 centimetres). Her guardian, Dean Zamonsky, also of Forrest, won fouth in adult northern pike, with a length of 100 centimetres.

All derby proceeds will go towards our continued aeration efforts in Pelican Lake; please visit www.healthylake.ca for more information.
