It was 19 years ago that Jeff Maxwell began his teaching career in Oak River; in 1999 he accepted a position at Elton Collegiate in Forrest. In those 16 years he has coached both male and female sports, primarily varsity volleyball, basketball and track and field. He has led the Sabres to multiple high school provincial champions and claimed many wins for both boys’ and girls’ teams. All 16 of his girls’ basketball teams have attended provincial competition and for the past 15 consecutive years, Sabres volleyball teams have been at provincials with boys winning four titles and girls winning six AA championships.
Besides school sport, Jeff also coaches community sports, including the Westman girl’s volleyball team, which won gold medals at Manitoba Winter Games in Portage la Prairie in 2010.
For this outstanding “track” record, Jeff was recognized by Manitoba High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) with the Grey Cup Legacy Coach of the Year Award. He was presented this plaque at the MHSAA annual meeting in Gimli on June 16.
Jeff lives in Forrest with his wife Michelle and daughters Charley and Georgia-Rae.
