The month of June was busy for Rivers Police Service; we responded to 69 calls for service. We saw a number of theft from vehicles occurring this month and we are seeking the public’s help — please ensure all valuables are removed from your vehicle and keep your vehicle locked at all times.
Congratulations go to Nathan Briand for this year’s Use Your Head campaign; he won the bike donated by Canadian Tire. McDonald’s restaurants provided a free hamburger to all students and Tim Horton’s and Old Dutch also contributed prizes. My thanks go out to auxiliary constable Dallas Scott for all the hard work he did in obtaining these prizes.
Although we were busier in June, there were no violent crimes reported. As mentioned, several thefts were realized, with eight cases of theft over $5,000 and three files created for property damage. The six-month total of property crimes is now 24; almost half of these occurred in June. In other Criminal Code categories, three frauds were reported (now a total of 10 in 2015); all violent, property and other crimes total 43 cases so far this year.
There were no federal traffic charges laid this month; in fact, only one charge has been made in this section in 2015 and that was for impaired driving. Provincial traffic cases were also relatively quiet with three charges in the other category such as speeding, unregistered, no licence, etc. This “other” category has 43 cases in six months, so three is an improvement over other months. Two motor vehicle accidents were reported in June, bringing the six-month grand total of traffic incidents to 57.
Liquor and Gaming Control Act (LGCA) and Intoxicated Persons Detention Act (IPDA) had one charge of possessing liquor in an unauthorized manner; only nine charges have been laid under LGCA/IPDA in six months.
We were called to enforce the animal control and burning bylaws once each; we have enforced bylaws 13 times in 2015 for nuisance, animal, burning and traffic.
Rivers Police Service assisted the public seven times and other agencies five times in June, as well as 11 RCMP/Daly calls for assistance. To date we’ve assisted others 57 times; 23 of those were in June.
Once again, the miscellaneous category accounts for most of our time, with 24 new cases opened in June. Three were community relations, four were alarms, one was a noisy party/disturbance, two were lost properties, two were found properties and 12 were miscellaneous, which includes unfounded complaints. At the half-year mark of 2015, Rivers Police Service has logged 143 files in the miscellaneous category with 94 of those falling into the miscellaneous section of the 16-section category.
