Rivers Police Service responded to 61 calls in July, meaning almost two cases per day. Here are the latest statistics. The fifth violent crime in seven months was dealt with last month, bringing the 2015 assault total to three cases; other violent crimes are one sexual offence and one extortion/uttering threats/etc.
In the property crime category six thefts overs $5,000 were reported (year-to-date total now 20 cases) and our first break-and-enter of the year. Three frauds were investigated (now 13 files) and seven various other crimes; all Criminal Code cases in 2015 now total 61.
Under traffic laws no federal rules were enforced and only seven provincial ones, all in the other category which could be speeding, an unregistered vehicle, driving without a licence, etc. There were also three accidents reported in July; Rivers Police Service has handled 67 traffic cases in 2015.
There was no need to implement the Liquor and Gaming Control Act but police did manage one intoxicated person/breach of the peace; of the four categories in these two sections, Rivers has had 10 files in 2015.
We were needed every other day in July for bylaw enforcement; 14 complaints were lodged with three in nuisance, nine were animals and two were traffic. Burning is the fourth bylaw members enact upon and thus far, these bylaws have accounted for 27 of our files.
Rivers Police Service is pleased to partner with other agencies and assist our public, which we did four times last month. Another six times we helped RCMP members in the former RM of Daly; to date Rivers has provided assistance 67 times.
Every single day of July, plus one, was used for a miscellaneous “crime.” There was one mental health call, one alarm, three noisy parties/disturbances, one Child and Family Services, two lost properties, three found properties and 18 other miscellaneous cases, which includes unfounded complaints. When these 32 files are added to the first six months, police have dealt with 175 miscellaneous cases in 2015.
Our total number of cases so far in 2015 is 407.
