Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation announced on Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 1, the emergency closure of the PR 250 bridge over the Assiniboine River at Deerboine Colony in the Spring Valley district of Riverdale Municipality. The temporary closure is due to structural damage from an oversized load striking an overhead cross beam of the steel-truss bridge.

A preliminary assessment of the damage by government staff has determined a complete inspection and engineering assessment is required. The bridge will be closed for safety reasons until the necessary repairs are completed; no date has been given as to when the bridge will re-open.

Stakeholders such as the municipality, emergency services, RCMP and school buses that may regularly use the route have been contacted; detour signs will be posted to advise the general motoring public.
