It’s hard to believe that the summer is already over, but with the crisp morning air and school starting, it’s a sure sign that fall is here. Along with summer being over, it is also the end of the season at the Beautiful Plains Museum in Neepawa.
Although the number of visitors at the museum was lower than last year, we still had a good season. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many interesting people this year, such as travelers from places like Australia and England, a local former CNR telegraph operator and a local World War II veteran.
I could list so many other great people I have met at the museum this year as well, but then I would be writing out the entire guest book and the newspaper editor would likely not be happy with me. My day is always much more exciting when there are visitors, so let this be my sincere thank you to everyone who has visited the museum this year. As well, thank you to everyone who has made a donation to the museum; the museum relies on your support to keep the building maintained and operating. I would also like to thank all of the museum’s board members for volunteering their time to help me with tours, work on my days off, and most importantly, for ensuring that the museum continues to stay open each year.
Our major project at the museum this year has been renovating the basement. Volunteers have put in countless hours this spring and summer to help make this project a reality. Thank you to Allan Drysdale and Jim Baker for their many hours spent moving all of the artifacts and displays in the basement out from the area being renovated and for pulling out all of the carpeting and baseboards. The board members and I would also like to extend a huge thank you to the volunteers from the Church of the Latter-Day Saints for washing, priming and putting two coats of paint on the walls and ceiling in the basement. Finally, another thank you to Allan Drysdale for all of his hard work put into building the landings for the stairs, dry walling a section of one wall and washing and painting the floor in the basement.
Be sure to visit the Beautiful Plains Museum next year to see the newly redone basement! The museum will reopen during the May long weekend.
