Neepawa and Area Health Auxiliary

The Neepawa Area Health Auxiliary held its second meeting of 2016 on Tuesday, April 5. Executive for this year – president Ivy Cameron, past president Ruth Hanke, secretary Marg Van Buskirk and treasurer Eleanor Nicholson.

Some of the purchases for the hospital for the past year: operating room equipment for ear/nose/throat and for gynaecology surgery; a lab cart for lab/x-ray department; food processor for kitchen and a safe storage housekeeping cart.

Purchases for Country Meadows: two pressure relief mattresses and a dozen beverage carafes.

At this meeting, motions were made to purchase a morphine pump for the palliative care unit and for Country Meadows, a manual blood pressure machine, two fall mattresses, two motion sensors for residents rooms and two tag monitors for beds.

Some of the volunteer work of the auxiliary is assisting with as well as supplying refreshments at the blood donor and flu clinics; assisting the Family Council at Country Meadows with the annual Strawberry Tea. A visiting program has been established at the hospital (filling a need to long term patients).

The auxiliary is hosting a health awareness event on Friday, April 22 from 1:30 – 4:00 p.m. at the Neepawa Legion Hall. It is an information afternoon featuring local guest speakers - Jocelyn Scheper – care team manager Neepawa Hospital; Claire McConnell – Regional Clinical Educator Mental Health; Debbie McNairnay – Cancer Care Navigator, sharing information about patient advocacy, accessing mental health and cancer supports.
