Submitted photos. Gwen Baryla had three pieces accepted into the Create at the Red River Ex Juried Art Show. This piece, called Rhythm, is on display at ArtsForward as part of the Hands On exhibit.

Two local artists had their work on display at the ‘Create at the Red River Ex’ Juried Art Show, from June 17 to 26, in Winnipeg. Gwen Baryla of Neepawa had three of the four paintings she submitted accepted to be in the show. Shannon Desjardins, also of Neepawa, had two paintings in the show and placed second in the amateur division.

80 years ago - Tuesday, July 14, 1936
Over 200 were present at the Legion picnic at Riverbend Park Wednesday afternoon. There were races for the children and softball for the younger boys with suitable prizes. In the evening, the Legion ladies and men encountered in a ball game with the former winning, according to them. The Legion Band gave a concert, which was much appreciated.

When it mattered most, the people of Neepawa stepped up to support a local family in their effort to assist CancerCare Manitoba and Ronald McDonald House. Just under 200 people participated in some or all of the festivities surrounding the Super Alyx Golf Tournament and Dinner, which were held on Saturday, July 16.

Rivers Ag Society members may have been concerned when Wednesday, July 6 dawned with heavy fog and occasional mist which remained in the air until late morning, but those conditions did not affect attendance at the annual pancake and sausage breakfast; 280 people were served, slightly more than last year. The parade featured business and emergency vehicles, one decorated bicycle, a pair of miniature horses driven by cart riders and some floats, all of which passed by spectators in 12 minutes.
