Council Clips:
RM of Oakview, Feb. 23: Reeve Brent Fortune reported on the Midwest Planning District meeting he attended and the responsibility of municipalities to enforce the Manitoba Fire Code through the Fires Prevention and Emergency Response Act. Council will request the district to supply this service and, if approved, Wayne Poppel will be considered the designated local assistant.
Yellowhead Centre takes first steps on capital plan

The major upgrades to Yellowhead Centre (YHC) have taken another step forward, as the board of directors has approved a pair of construction tenders. John’s Electric of Neepawa has received the tender for the installation of new LED lighting in the arena, while Cimco Refrigeration of Winnipeg will install a second de-humidifier for the facility, to be located at the west end of the arena.

United Way Neepawa makes final grant distribution

It was a bittersweet day, as 12 organizations providing services in the Neepawa area came to accept their last grant from the Neepawa and District United Way on March 23. After more than 30 years in the community, the organization’s board made the difficult decision to close down the branch.

A family and community has had its chance to say goodbye to Chase Martens. A funeral service for the two-year-old, who had gone missing the previous week, was held on March 30 at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in MacGregor, MB. The youngster’s body was found on March 26, after a massive search effort began on March 22.
