Collegiate competes for Canley Can

As most activities go, this one started as a small idea and quickly morphed into a significant undertaking. It all began when Riley Shamray and Riley Lamb came up with the idea of putting on a floor hockey tournament for a noon hour activity. About the same time, Liliane Dupuis approached Rivers Collegiate Institute (RCI) with an idea to assist Riverdale Harvest with renewing their inventory. The Grade 7 social studies class turned both ideas into a hugely successful food drive, due to the terrific support of RCI staff and student body, parents and Little Italy of Brandon.

Seniors housing open house set for June 30

Last fall, Zen Development held an open house at the former Neepawa-Gladstone Co-op grocery store to introduce their proposed 55Plus seniors housing project. The response was tremendous so the group went back to the drawing board to firm up their plans. Their next presentation to the public is on June 30 at the Yellowhead Centre at 7 p.m.

Melva and Belva are recognized

In 1958 Hamiota Co-op amalgamated with Cardale and Moline to create Hamiota/Cardale Co-op. The Cardale branch has been staffed by the same two women for nearly three decades so a surprise recognition was planned for them on Wednesday afternoon, June 17. Held at Dora’s Cafe in Cardale, approximately 30 people were on hand to witness Hamiota’s manager Bill Feschuk present “their girls” with gifts. Neither have announced plans to retire but the community and co-op board thought it high time for some recognition. Bill presented the women corsages, a leather duffle bag (Belva) and a watch (Melva).
