It’s been 10 years since Neepawa and area received federal and provincial funding to build the regional landfill known as Evergeen Environmental Technologies. Funding was provided for the regional site after years of study about the need for a regional approach to waste management. Three major centres, including Carberry, Minnedosa and Neepawa-Langford all had been advised by Environment Manitoba that their respective landfills were reaching the end of their legal lifespan based on provincial regulations.

NACI will stay "AA" for now

Athletics at Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute will remain at the “AA” level, for now. There have been discussions recently across the community suggesting high school sports programs would be elevated to “AAA” for the 2015-2016 season. 

Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association executive director Morris Glimcher said there are no plans to make this shift in the immediate future, but added that it is something that’s likely to occur within the next few years.

Newspaper publisher seeks PC nomination

Greg Nesbitt of Shoal Lake, candidate for nomination in the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba’s Riding Mountain Constituency, met approximately 25 people at a coffee party  Monday afternoon. Tempo Place Emporium’s restaurant begins its business at 5 p.m. but on March 23 they opened at 2 p.m., giving Nesbitt two hours to chat with those who came to learn about him. He has 38 years experience in rural communication as owner and publisher of Nesbitt Publishing Ltd., a career he started 18 months after graduation. Just over one year ago, he became president of Grasslands News Group which publishes three newspapers in eastern Saskatchewan. He is also partner/president of Russell Inns Ltd. which is a majority shareholder of Asessippi Ski Area and Resort. Nesbitt has served on both provincial and national newspaper association boards, village council, fire department and airport committee. He’s also coached both minor and senior hockey and fastball.

The 2015 hockey season has wound down and McCreary Student Council organized an annual student vs. staff hockey game. The students from grades seven to 12 participated in the festivities at McCreary Centennial Arena.
